Travel list:

  • Passport - please not: passport application can take up to 6 months and your passport needs two clean pages.

  • Airline tickets/reservations

  • Travel and trip insurance

  • Cash/credit card to use in stores when buying curious - notify your credit card company that you are coming to South Africa



  • Hunting shirts - long/short sleeves in khaki, cream, olive or camouflage

  • Loose fitting pants or jeans

  • Shorts - zip off pants work very well

  • Underwear                     

  • 4 pairs of socks

  • T-shirts

  • Sweater

  • 1 warm jacket, fleece or waterproof windbreaker with hoodie

  • Ball cap/hunting hat

  • Vest

  • Gloves

  • Shoes - lightweight, comfortable shoes to hunt in (not warm heavy duty hunting boots)

  • Comfortable shoes or sandals to wear around camp

  • You have to dress in layers

  • Mornings and late evenings can be cool - 30-40 ℉

  • It warms up fast to 60-70F and some months it can rise to 80-90 ℉

  • Washing is done daily – bring 3/4 sets of clothes


  • Rifle and ammunition (please check section on rifle importation)

  • Airline approved rifle case to transport rifle in

  • Soft gun case and gun cleaning kit

  • Binoculars

  • Knife - optional

  • Camera with extra batteries/chargers and memory chips

  • Electrical travel adapter (South Africa uses 220 V electricity)

  • Small flashlight


Personal gear:

  • Small medical kit containing prescription medication, headache medication, band aids, allergy medication, diarrhoea medication, anti-itch cream, lip balm

  • Insect repellant

  • Sunblock

  • Shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, soap, shaving etc.

  • Washcloth

  • Kleenex/tissues


Other suggested items:

  • Small battery operated alarm clock

  • A journal to document your experiences

  • Address book with phone numbers and/or email addresses of people at home that you might want to call or send pictures of what you have shot while you are in South Africa
